As for the TVR reliability horror stories in the time I have owned the car the only thing I had was, the boot didn’t want to open, which was fixed by me holding the button down for 30 seconds and that’s it. | Once warmed up, the oil temperature sits around 65 degrees on b roads and motorways (70-75MPH the oil pressure stays around 45 PSI) in traffic and around town the oil temperature rises to 70-75 degrees, I realise this is going by the original TVR gauge, but also TVR Power have just road tested the vehicle while on its service and reported no running temperature problems. | As you can see, I have been very thorough & honest with my advert; I’m selling due to now having to work away from home from the end of February and I can’t justify two cars. The car gets driven at least once a week, so has not been sat for weeks or months between journeys on a battery charger. hatchback!I chose this particular Chimaera since I believe it`s the perfect spec for a first-time TVR owner. It`s got the more modern serpentine Rover V8 engine, the later T5 gearbox and power steering - it`s still not a car for the faint hearted but these features make it a bit easier to live with. It comes with the standard Chimaera equipment including limited slip diff, Thatcham approved alarm/immobiliser, stainless steel exhaust, remote locking etc etc. It also comes with a few optional extras including full leather interior (rather than just the seats), PAS as previously mentioned and an ice detector for those winter morning drives.The MOT runs out on 6/1/2013 and the tax on 30/6/2012, so it`s ready to drive away.The car drives great - plenty of power from the venerable 4.0 litre Rover V8 and a race inspired chassis to help you tame it. The gearbox gives a precise, solid change and the steering is perfectly weighted to give a lot of feel whilst not being too heavy at slow speeds. And of course it sounds great! All the electrical items on the car work, which can be an issue for some cars in the lower price bracket (based on a few others I saw when I bought this one!!). The heater also works fantastically well, which makes the car perfect for cold, sunny winter morning drives with the roof off (this is one of my favourite times for driving it!). TVRs have a reputation for breaking down, but this one has always started first time and has only let me down once due to a dead battery (which has now been replaced). However I`ve done plenty of work on the car to ensure it run well, this includes:- 2 oil/filter services- Alarm/immobiliser checked over and fixed by Carl Baker (TVR alarm guru)- New rear crank oil seal (this required the gearbox to come out and the oil was replaced at the same time)- New PAS pump and serpentine belt- New exhaust manifold gaskets and manifold bolts- New rear brake pads- New Gaz Gold coilovers including professional geometry setup by APM Automotive (total cost approx £850)- Diff refurbished by Grantura Engineering (total cost approx £500)- New Steve Heath speedo sensorI`ve also recently setup the idle so there`s no stalling or hunting problems, which involved replacing the stepper motor. And there`s probably loads more which I`ve forgotten about. The previous owner has also done plenty of work on the car including front brake pads, stainless steel brake flexi pipes all round and some interior upgrades (handbrake, dash panel, CD player, indicator/wiper stalks).The chassis has never been worked on and is still in fairly good shape. Last summer I thoroughly cleaned the outriggers and gave them a coating of POR15 to help protect them. Since then I`ve regularly washed them down to ensure no mud/grit is trapped between the outrigger and body.The car will come with the original owners manual, which also shows a fully stamped service history. I also have an extensive history file with the car, which goes back 10+ years and details much of the work done, as well as backing up the mileage with old MOT certificates.There are a couple of issues with the car, which I have reflected in the price. Unfortunately the gorgeous lines of the car are completely unprotected from stones and debris and so the cars had a respray in the past which you can spot in a couple of areas, and there are also a few chips around the body and a small dent just above the rear number plate (see photo). Essentially there`s a few areas where the car is showing it`s age, but nothing major, and problems that could be easily rectified if the new owner wished.In summary I think this is a useable Chimaera and perfect for someone who wants some TVR frills without spending a fortune. Many of the TVR `quirks` and typical problems have been addressed so there`s much less for the new owner to worry about!
