I can supply more pictures on request and will upload some over the weekend weather permitting!I have owned my TVR for just over a year but alas need to sell her to put the money into my business.In the time I`ve owned the car it has NEVER let me down. Besides routine servicing costs the only money I have had to spend has been on a new battery, but seeing as the old one was 9 years old that`s fair enough!TVR`s have a reputation for being badly built unreliable dogs. This is nonsense which is often espoused by people who have never sat in one, let alone owned one! If looked after a Chimaera will be one of the most rewarding and satisfying cars you can own. The soundtrack, sense of occasion and brutal acceleration is addictive!My Chimaera comes with a large history file and has had a lot of money and time spent on it. I use it at least once a week and when it`s not being driven it is garaged. Since I`ve owned it I spent a weekend underneath and cleaned off and then under sealed the chassis. I couldn`t see anything to worry about and there is an invoice for new outriggers a few years ago.The engine always fires up from cold and uses no fluids outside of normal parameters. I check all fluids every week. Before the car is sold it will have had an oil/filter and coolant change as this is due about now.In terms of current jobs to be done there is nothing urgent. All the tyres are fine as are the brakes, if anything the rear pads will be next for a change but have plenty of meat left as they are.Being a TVR and an 18 year old hand built car there are a few foibles. If you want something which doesn`t have these then I suggest a TVR may not be for you! None of these things are major and are pretty standard Chimaera features! Slightly erratic gauges and heat soak! I`ve got nothing to hide and will answer any questions you have about the condition of the car. Cosmetically there are a few blemishes and marks but nothing you wouldn`t expect for a car of this age!I would encourage you to come and view the car if you are seriously interested or I am happy to give you a walk around description of the car over the phone. Subject to insurance I have no problem with you having a drive and in fact would strongly recommend it! Buying a TVR without driving it first would be madness! Payment by cash please. 4 years and done lots of work to it and I mean LOTS to restore it to the standard it is now.The car is standard and I have only improved aesthetic areas of the car to make it look as original as possible. I will list some of the work done later but I have also documented in chronological order every single thing that has been done to the car including actual costs, and parts used (new in most cases) It really has been a labour of love. The car is not the cheapest on offer but it does represent value for money given the work that has been done and the finished article.First and foremost the chassis is in tip top condition outriggers have been done and the remaining chassis has been stripped to bare metal throughout, treated primed and repainted with red or black enamel. This includes the trailing arms and the hubs etc.It all looks fantastic. I have tried to show this in the pictures. My car is only used in good (dry) weather and is always garaged when not being used. To be honest its as clean on the underneath as it is on top. Car will have been serviced and have 12 months MOT when sold and is taxed until end of September 2012.Servicing and MOT and anything not in my mechanical scope has been carried out by SD Autotec. No expense spared if it needed work doing it has been done. All invoices to warrant all work carried out. Here is some of the work that has been done in the past three years.0) Professionally Serviced and checked annually1) 4 new Continentals done around 2k miles if that since fitted.2) Gaz Gold Suspension kit plus geometry set up.3) Detailed engine bay4) New clutch slave cylinder including flexible braided hose (custom made)5) New swirl professionally made.6) Refurbed coolant pipes (the metal ones)7) Full silicone hose kit.8) Stainless exhaust manifolds and joining pipes.9) New fuel pump and swirl hose.10)Front calipers professionally painted off the car.11)Ball joints and track rod ends replaced.Loads more it`s all in the service file I have created. Also have original TVR folder, a copy of the Steve Heath Bible, 2 ignition keys. 2 glove box keys, original gear knob and the cigarette lighter ( currently removed as it bashes my knees)Fitted TVR over mats plus originals, cargo net behind seats original spare wheel and tool kit.I also have every MOT and details of all the three previous owners so car has full provenance and is very genuine.Exterior is near perfect 1 x 50cm area of star craze on the bonnet and thats it rest of car is excellent and looks gorgeous.Interior is also near perfect no rusty dials, ALL the electrics work, including electric windows and dimmers on the dials. One bad point is a 4 inch rip in the drivers seat but that`s it and it`s not really visible unless you know its there. Hood and roof panels are perfect no leaks or tears or milkiness in either front or rear screen. It even smells nice its not fusty at all.Words can`t describe this car enough if you want an S and don`t want the hassle of chassis repairs and the £££`s that go with it then mine is worth a look and ready to drive or even show its that clean.Come and talk TVR S with me over a cuppa and satisfy your curiousity if nothing else. It`s in excellent condition throughout and the eventual buyer will not be disappointed.Reluctant sale but it`s no good having it as a garage ornament it needs someone ideally a TVR enthusiast who has more time than me to drive and appreciate this awesome motor car. It goes rather well to, starts first time every time and does not overheat or lose water. 100% reliable during my ownership. fantastic!0-60 in 4.8 seconds. Not to be underestimated. And what a soundtrack.Classic British engineering. Spaceframe chassis, Range Rover derived V8 engine, tweaked by TVR for maximum power,gorgeous sculpted lightweight fiberglass bodywork (no rust!) and swathes of leather in the sumptuous interior.It is the classic British sports car reinvented. Biscuit leather seats and contrasting green trim, makes this car a truly special place to be.Recently resprayed (due to stone-chipping, not accident damage) in original Starmist Green metallic.This car is fitted with the 4 litre TVR V8 which pulls like train. It is a brute.I have owned a few cars in the past with even larger engines that this, but not so lightweight.I have never driven a car which is so visceral and ‘raw’It is such an engaging driving experience, sometimes slightly scary, but never boring.This car has the later (and more desirable) serpentine engine and T5 gearbox,which does not overheat like some TVRs and is powerful and smooth as it should be.It also has the benefit of the optional power steering which makes it more useable as an everyday car in carparks etc.The chassis and outriggers are in good condition and all seem structurally sound.Could probably do with another coat of Waxoil this year to keep it long lasting.The car is HPi clear with no record of any accident damage, unlike some of the other lower priced cars around.Lots of these cars have been driven over-enthusiastically and ended up damaged, but this one has not.Insurance is cheap for this car, I pay only £250 per year for a TVR 5,000 mile classic comprehensive policy from Manning TVRThis car is also the same specification as when it left the factory.No huge wheels or aftermarket exhausts, (it is loud enough already!) so this car is completely unmolested.The car was originally used as an everyday car, covering around 95,000 miles with full service history up until it was stored and only covered 9,000 in the last 9 years. Since then it has been restored and re-commissioned into the condition it is now.Full Service history and service book included.The re-commissioning included:Respray in original Starmist Green metallic.Replaced: spark plugs, plug shrouds, 10mm plug leads, Bosch coil, distributor cap & rotor,idle control valve, fuel pump, lambda sensors x2, filters and oil & coolant service.Wheels refurbished - New rear screen - New battery.MOT (December 2011)New Scorpion Thatcham cat 1 insurance approved alarm and immobiliser fitted (with certificate)Original alarm immobiliser which are historically troublesome was completely removed. As with any car of this nature and vintage, there are still a few little jobs left to do.If I were to keep it I would replace the burr walnut sections of the dash (I have the walnut to this, just not the time)and I would have the seats re-trimmed. Passenger seat is fine, but drivers seat is showing signs of age, as they all do.There are a couple of little bits which need fettling, most of which are cosmetic, and this is the reason for the lower price. It`s a beast under the bonnet: Refurbished wheels Some of your questions answered:Why are they so good?Classic British engineering. Light weight car, sculpted bodywork, leather interior,with a giant engine, awesome sound and performance to match.So why is it so cheap? Priced to sell. This is the cheapest decent one by quite some way, and I don’t think you will find better at this price anywhere.In fact I think you could pay a lot more for one in worse condition.Why are you selling?I’d love to keep it, but our seemingly never-ending house refurbishment which should have been finished a year ago is still unfinished,and we need more funds. Otherwise I’d be keeping this for good.But TVR has gone out of business, are parts a problem?Nope, parts are easy to find. The engine is all Rover / Range Rover so parts are plentiful and cheap.Most of the other parts are Ford or Vauxhall so they are again easy to find.For example: Wheel bearings – Ford EscortIgnition key switch – Vauxhall (Cavalier I think!)Rear lights – Ford Fiesta, (upside down)Ashtrays- Austin AllegroThe only things which are bespoke to TVR are the engine internals, interior trim and external panels,but these are widely available secondhand from specialists, dismantlers and eBay. What about the price?As with any car, I’m open to small negotiation, but silly offers will not be entertained.I’m not a desperate seller, so won’t be giving it away.If the offers aren’t sufficient I may just have to keep it and sell a kidney instead to pay for the house, carpets and curtains.You often see crashed cars sold for salvage for around £4000, engines alone are worth £2000 secondhand and rotten restoration cars often sell for £3000-£4000.You certainly couldn’t buy and restore a bad one to the condition of mine for the asking price of my car.Part Exchange?No thanks, unless of course you want a straight swap for your Murcielago or Veyron. Ahem.I’m looking for cash money funds, not a replacement.Aren’t TVRs unreliable and badly built?Not particularly. They aren’t quite a Honda in terms of build quality, but they aren’t as bad as people make out.This car has covered over 104,000 miles and has been used as an everyday car originally.You couldn’t cover 104k in a car that breaks down every five minutes.Most of the reputation for unreliability was due to the massive demand meaning that the factory was overstretched.The Chimaera was such a huge success and they sold more Chimaeras than all previous models of TVR put together,but inevitably they struggled to cope with the demand. This meant some cars left the factory not quite as well finished as they should be,and this meant new owners had a few problems to iron out, which gained them a bit of a reputation.Once these niggles are sorted out, they are generally fine, and probably no worse than the Range Rovers, Vauxhall and Fords of the same era.So why should I buy yours?It is probably not the best car for sale, as you can pay £15k+ for a late model mint car,but I am confident it is the best car by a mile at this price.You could pay thousands more to get one in far worse condition.PLEASE EMAIL ME, USING `CONTACT SELLER` LINK AT TOP OF PAGE TO ARRANGE TO VIEW. with some serious modifications whilst keeping the appearance and essence of the original Griffith 400Full body off restoration during 2008, chassis stripped back to bare frame, every single component removed and either replaced or refurbished, including new powerflex bushes, new bolts, new brake lines, new fuel lines and new ball joints. The Chassis was sand blasted to reveal any corrosion which was only minor and only in the front corners of the outriggers, these areas were cut out and new outriggers were fabricated and welded in, the chassis was then treated to several coats of zinc primer followed by 2k silver and a final stone chip resistant coat to exposed areas. Brakes were up rated to Cosworth front callipers and 283mm vented discs and Griffith 500 spec rear vented discs and callipers and braided hoses all round. The addition of a 5 stud hub conversion to allow fitment of various later style TVR wheels. The chassis was originally rebuilt with AVO shock absorbers but these have since been replaced in 2010 with a new set of Nitron Racing Reds which are a great improvement.The body shell was treated to a complete all panels off repaint in its original Cooper green. Over the years these cars tend to have their front ends repainted quite often due to stone chip damage so on this car the front had the paint removed right back to fibreglass to remove all those previous layers and thereby making it less prone to chips in the future. This also showed the car still has its original front end and no evidence of any crash damage was found anywhere on the body shell. The car has also been updated with Griffith SE 7" Hella headlamps and pods and whilst the lamp pods were removed the heater intake was also modified and a proper pipe installed to channel air from fan motor to heater matrix giving a much improved heating and ventilation system.The engine is a fully rebuilt 4.6 V8 utilising a cross bolted block, top hat liners, serpentine front cover, later oil pump, vernier timing gear, Kent 218 cam, balanced rods and pistons, stage 3 "V8 developments" cylinder heads, ported and matched inlet manifold, 45mm alloy trumpets, group A rockers & shafts, lightened and balanced steel billet flywheel and a new clutch. The original Rover 14 cux ECU was binned in favour of an Emerald K3 fully mapable ECU, Innovate wideband LC-1 lambda controller with XD-16 serial dash display and bespoke engine wiring loom. All this plus a JP stainless steel exhaust system and a heavily modified induction system which is the Achilles heal of RV8 power gains, makes this engine produce a genuine 327BHP, that`s around 50 more real horses than your average over quoted Griffith 500 engine!The gearbox is the original Rover LT77 5 speed which has needed nothing other than oil changes. The diff was rebuilt by John Read in 2008. The interior is Doeskin half leather with alcantara door inserts and gaiters, new quality green carpets fitted this winter, carbon fibre instrument panel, New updated speedo(retaining original design)and new sender, Sportmotive roll hoop and Tuscan steering wheel. The roof panel is also two-piece, with new mohair covering.The car currently sits on Raceline RL7 16" wheels all round. 16" TVR Spiders are also available by negotiation or if you really want to the 5 stud hub conversion will allow the fitment of 18" spiders.In conclusion this is a much sought after pre catalytic converter Griffith 400, one of the first cars and therefore one of the most desirable, fastidiously maintained and fully rebuilt from the ground up by its current owner over the last nine years with sensible and serious modifications, virtually every system and component has been improved or updated for performance and reliability to produce an absolutely awesome car, a car which looks from the outside like a pretty original standard car, with the purity of the original Griffith design with its smaller mouth and separate lower front lamps but with performance that far exceeds that of the later Griffith 500 whilst retaining that very special none sanitised, none catalysed V8 noise. This car has always been treated as a "keeper" and is only for sale due to the fortunate unexpected purchase of a much later TVR. It currently has 55000 miles, road tax until September and will come with full 12 months MOT.
